Jazztube…

Thanks to ptkblog I just learned of jazztube, a website that collects jazz video clips from Youtube and organizes them according to musician. In a way, some of your students can actually say they saw John Coltrane, Clifford Brown or Ella Fitzgerald perform. If your next thought is that there should be a bluestube, you are in luck. You can find a link to bluestube from the jazztube site. John Lee Hooker, Son House and Keb Mo are just a click away. As with any other form of media use your best judgment when using any clips as a resource for your students.

  1. Great article,

I have often used youtube to pull up videos of these greats and others. I have a great collection of jazz dvds and videos including all of the Ken Burns and many PBS Jazz dvds, but some of the things that come up on Youtube are just too amazing! Hopefully, some day, someone will find a pile of video of Art Tatum!

I was not aware of jazztube and it will be on my short list of “must uses and sees”.

    Thanks,

  2. Glad to hear you find the link useful. Every time I browse through video clips on sites such as youtube I find a couple that would make excellent resources for a music class. I wonder how many students find out about musicians they otherwise wouldn’t have heard of due to a clip they found on youtube, vimeo or other online video site?
