I recently returned from the Mayday Group Conference held this past weekend. There were many excellent papers presented that have interesting implications for music education. I’ll be posting sporadically throughout the summer since I will be travelling around for much of it and will start posting regularly again in September. Enjoy your summer!
This is an excellent point and suggestion- especially considering that students can really relate it to their everyday lives. I mean, how many of these kids have ipods and are constantly creating playlists anyway? The discussion could lead to what type of music would they put on a playlist for a party for their friends. How about a party for their parents? A playlist to work out to?
Another spin might be to incorporate video- watching something sad with an upbeat soundtrack, or something exciting with a slow tempo playlist and getting the students’ reactions to how it changes their perception- a fun project!
