Facilitation Guidelines and Resources
General Facilitation Guidelines
- Keep equipment in storage bin until it is needed based on the time slots
- Keep art supplies in storage bin until it is needed based on the time slots
- You will have one laptop per table for using with Ableton or for touchboard files
- Use an Ableton or SoundPlant file that is pre-set to work with the Makey Makey
- Let people know about the website https://evantobias.net/weareallmusical
For info during Spark
For info and resources after Spark for people who want to know or do more
If people have questions about the event or seem like they might want to collaborate have them chat with me at the festival or send me an email at [email protected]
Makey Makey (Nathan, Jenny, Jared)
- Please take a look at this set of resources to become comfortable with using the Makey Makey
- 3 makey makey devices will be set on tables along with a variety of conductive materials ranging from everyday metal items to pieces of fruit.
- Two of the Makey makeys will be paired with a laptop to access and trigger audio samples.
- The third can be worked with and swapped out with another one to try different interactive “instruments”
- We are preparing a Spark MakeyMakey Ableton File for you to use with the Makey Makey
- Use the “Spark MakeyMakey Ableton File
- Use one of the Makey Makeys that is pre-set for people to engage with
Use the other Makey Makey to allow people to create their own instrument
Depending on your comfort level, use Ableton or Soundplant for people to make their instrument
We will have a set of preloaded sounds for you to use with both
LittleBits Synth Kit (Nathan, Jenny, Jared)
Take a look at this set of resources for the littleBits to become comfortable
- 2 littlebits synth kits will be set on tables or low stone walls with small – mid size speakers (no computer is needed) for people to explore.
- Simply let people play around with the little bits — use the portable speakers if amplification is needed.
- Guide when needed.
- Let people know about the landing page, which has links to resources
BareConductive Touch Board (Nathan & Jenny)
Resources coming soon
Interactive art
- Display on or near the low stone walls during makey makey, littlebits and coding time slots
- Use at tables during bareconductive touchboard time slots
- 1 open touchboard will be used in conjunction with BareCondutive Paint, copper tape, aluminum foil, soft graphite pencils, crayons, construction paper, etc. for people to create interactive musical art.
- Help people learn about the possibilities of the touchboard and conductive paint and other conductive materials through their art and play.
- If possible, help participants record their own sounds for interaction with their art instruments.
- When recording is not possible – use the bank of sounds on the SD card
Coding and Programming Music (Jared O’Leary)
- 1 laptop on a laptop stand with headphones will be used to invite people to create and perform music through coding and programming with systems such Scratch and Sonic pi.
- Jared will facilitate this. Assume that we will NOT have internet access. (a desktop version of Scratch is available)
- Inviting people to engage
- Let people explore but guide when you think it will be helpful
General Facilitation Advice
- Give demos to people to help them out
- It is often appropriate for you to play as well – this will help people feel comfortable
- Model
- Encourage collaboration
- Ask people what they are curious about
See the main set of resources for information on inclusion and accessability
