Pre-Mixing Rjd2
I’m a big fan of musicians allowing people to remix their music. Hip Hop musician Rjd2 is currently allowing people to pre-mix his music. Unlike a remix in which one works on a piece of music already created, Rjd2 has provided people with samples from a track yet to be released and inviting people to create their own music from the samples. Rather than providing loops he has provided samples as hits. It will be interesting to see what people come up with compared to the track he eventually releases. Why not have your students give it a try. Make sure you take a look at the site before sending your students to it since there may be some inappropriate track titles. Another option could be to have students that have created an original piece to provide the rest of your class with samples for pre-mixes. This could generate some interesting music and discussion!
I love the posts you have on here detailing remix projects! (this, and the Jason Freeman page especially.)
Last year the edgy wind band blog Loose Filter Project featured a Creative Commons wind band piece and asked for acoustic and electric remixes. These articles reminded me of that!
