Welcome!
Welcome to the #ImaginingPossibilities Music Curriculum Community for everyone on the team reviewing curriculum resources.
I am so excited to work with you and appreciate your time and willingness to help!
Watch the video and then unfold the following sections for information and guidance on how to participate.
This page explains the process of the review phase of this project and provides guidelines for you to participate in reviewing content on music curriculum development.
What is this for?
- This process is part of a research project with a goal to better support music educators in designing, updating, expanding, and transforming music curricula.
- In participating in this review process you agree to have your feedback included as part of the research and to inform the development of resources, including publications and other educational materials.
- The first set of resources and publication is in the form of a book I’m writing to support people in designing, updating, expanding, and transforming music curricula. The book and related and publications and resources are based on this research project and additional scholarship and perspectives.
- Phase 1 of the review introduces the book so you have an idea of what it is about, it’s style, etc
- If you are interested in the book as a potential resource, you can choose to continue reviewing chapters as they are released and then later on related resources.
What should I do?
- Once you agree to participate in reviewing curricular resources you will receive a google doc as a customized landing page for all the materials you can review.
- You will have a link to your landing page in the email I send you and you can also find it in your “shared with me” part of a google drive.
- Bookmark this page and bookmark your google doc landing page so you have easy access.
- Refer to the guidelines on this page to inform your review(s) of chapters, materials, and resources
- Refer to your google doc landing page to determine what materials to review and to keep track of your reviews.
- All reviews are voluntary and you can stop at any time.
Are these resources and chapters public?
- No. As a participant in this project you have received a special invitation to take part in the review and feedback of resources including chapters that are works in progress.
- Please do not share any of the chapters with anyone else.
How do I review the chapters and resources?
- On your personalized google doc landing page, look for a table that has buttons with links to chapters
- Click/tap on a chapter and then follow the link to read and review the chapter.
- Insert comments in the google doc as you read.
- You can treat this like a dialogue with the book – just share your thoughts and perspectives as you read!

- After you read through a chapter or section, please consider sharing an overview of your perspectives and feedback in the form of a VoiceThread video.
What should I include in my comments and feedback? (AKA Review Guidelines)
Here are some things that I would appreciate your feedback on that would be really helpful:
- Clarity
- What ideas or concepts are confusing or need better or different explanation?
- What suggestions do you have for making these ideas or concepts easier to understand?
- Context and real world examples
- What types of real world contexts or examples should I include or address when discussing a particular concept or idea?
- When does something feel inaccurate or less “realistic” and what would help make it more convincing or seem more possible?
- Points of friction
- What rubs you the wrong way and why?
- What do you disagree with and why?
- Resonance
- What resonates with you and why?
- What makes you more curious, interested, or excited and why?
- Tone
- How does the tone of the writing feel?
- When is the tone too jargony or academic?
- When is the tone too pandering, weird sounding, or off putting?
- What are you thinking?
- What are you thinking about when you read certain passages?
- What would you say to a colleague about certain passages?
- What is new to you and what might you do with it?
- General feedback and requests
- What are your general perspectives on what you read?
- What stood out in the chapters?
- What else would you like to see included or addressed?
- What would make this an amazing resource to you and other music educators?
